How does no-dig drain repair work?

We use the latest technology at Express Drain Surveys, which means no-dig drain repairs are part of our everyday work. Rather than digging up the whole area, we use specialist equipment that is fed through your drainage systems. We then apply repairs directly inside.

There are two common ways of administering no-dig drain repairs depending on the severity of the issue and how many areas need attention.

Patch lining: This cost-effective repair method requires no digging. We simply insert an inflatable packer with a resin applied to it down into your drains. This is manoeuvred into the correct position at the point where the drain is damaged and then inflated to press the patch into place, providing a watertight seal. This is ideal if you have one or two minor cracks and holes in your uPVC, clay or cast iron pipes, rather than an issue all along the pipe.

Pipe relining: We can apply drain lining for the whole length of the pipe if required. This is especially useful where there are lots of issues to fix, or a collapsed section of pipe. It is  cheaper than using multiple patches. A layer of resin is is put into place, even tackling bends, and then cured, making a secondary pipe within the broken one which lasts for decades.

We can recommend the right approach to help avoid unnecessary groundwork. Our engineers apply their years of experience to create a solution and schedule the work around you.

Wondering if no-dig drain repairs are right for you? Here are just a few of the benefits:

  • It’s cost-effective, sometimes saving over half the cost of a full drain excavation
  • It’s convenient since digging creates mess and disruption for you and others
  • It’s quick thanks to our specialist skills and because no heavy machinery is needed
  • It’s a long-lasting solution thanks to the strength and reliability of the resins we use

Why might I need no-dig drain repairs?

Traditionally, if there was an issue with your drainage deep within the system, the whole area would need to be excavated to reach and repair the pipework. Thankfully, this is no longer the case, and no-dig drain repairs can often be applied when a CCTV drain survey uncovers the location and nature of your issue.

Common reasons you might require a no-dig drain repair – sometimes called trenchless repair – can include:

  • Cracks
  • Fractures
  • Root ingress
  • Broken pipes

If you’ve been having issues with blocked or backed-up drains, there may be a fault within your system that requires repair. We can conduct a CCTV drain survey to establish where the issue lies and advise you on whether no-dig repairs are possible if required.

FAQs

How much does no-dig drain repair cost?
The cost of a no-dig drain repair is dependent on which type of repair is required and the extent of the damage. We’re happy to provide free estimates for the work and can give a more accurate idea of pricing if a CCTV drain survey has revealed the issue and its location. We offer this service as a much more cost-effective option over drain excavation, saving you money on repairs, which is why many people choose the no-dig service.
How long does no-dig drain repair take?
A no-dig drain repair could feasibly be carried out and finished in a matter of hours if the issue is easy to locate and is not too extensive. Larger jobs may require booking a longer appointment to fully repair a length of pipework, but once the resin is in place, the pipes should be ready to use again in a matter of several hours.
Who is responsible for drain repairs?
You are responsible for drain repairs where the issue lies within the boundary of your property. Outside of this boundary, it is usually the local sewer and water company’s responsibility. That means, if your drains are damaged, it will be up to you to arrange for them to be fixed. We can help you get to the bottom of any drainage problems and advise you on the best course of action to find the cheapest, most robust solution.
Are no-dig drain repairs always an option?
Not always. If the damage is too extensive or complex, then there may be no other option than to recommend excavation. However, we always strive to find a solution that minimises cost and disruption for all our customers. We’re happy to discuss your options with you before we carry out any work at your property.
